Next Generation Network Services: Technologies & Strategies by Neill Wilkinson,

Next Generation Network Services: Technologies & Strategies by Neill Wilkinson,
Never before have communications technologies moved so quickly or changed so dynamically. The use of standard computing hardware and the influence of the Internet have lead to so-called next-generation networks. This book explores the evolution to the new world of 'Next-Generation Networks' and services: The telecommunications industry is facing one of its toughest challenges yet - the transition from circuit-switched to packet-switched voice networks. Companies need to seize the opportunity of the convergence of voice networks and the Internet to deliver exciting and useful services. "Next Generation Network Services" explains technologies that have, and will influence this change, and brings together technologies such as softswitching, IP telephony, network directories and application frameworks. Features: Fixed and wireless telephony. Internet technologies. Standards. Understanding business goals in implementing a next-generation telecommunications network. A forward look at future services via telecommunications networks and their implications. Network-based services and hosted solutions for customers from computer telephony integration (CTI) through to the rise of the Application Service Provider. This book will interest telecommunications professionals as well as engineers who are working on current circuit-switched and future networks.

Broadband: Should We Regulate High-Speed Internet Access? by Robert W. Crandall,
Broadband: Should We Regulate High-Speed Internet Access? by Robert W. Crandall,
There is widespread concern in the telecommunications industry that public policy may be impeding the continued development of the Internet into a high-speed communications network. In the absence of ubiquitous, high-speed "broadband" Internet connections for residential and small-business customers, the demand for IT equipment and new Internet service applications may stagnate.Broadband policy is controversial in large part because of the differences in the regulatory regimes faced by different types of carriers. Cable television companies face neither retail price regulation of their cable modem services nor any requirements to make their facilities available to competitors. Local telephone companies, on the other hand, face both retail price regulation for their DSL service and a requirement imposed by the 1996 Telecommunications Act that they "unbundle" their network facilities and lease them to rivals. Finally, new entrants are largely unregulated, but many rely upon the incumbent telephone companies for the last mile or "loop" to connect their customers to their high-speed transport services. This asymmetric regulation is the focus of this volume, in which telecommunications scholars address the public policy issues that have arisen over the deployment of new high-speed telecommunications services.Robert W. Crandall is a senior fellow in the Economic Studies program at the Brookings Institution. His previous books include (with Martin Cave) Telecommunications Liberalization on Two Sides of the Atlantic (2001) and (with Leonard Waverman) Who Pays for Universal Service? (Brookings 2000). James H. Alleman is an associate professor in interdisciplinary telecommunications at the Collegeof Engineering and Applied Science, University of Colorado, on leave at Columbia University.

Telecommunication Engineering Center - The Telecommunication Engineering Center is a body under telecom commission and a nodal agency of the Department of Telecommunication, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India which is responsible for drawing up of standards, generic requirements, interface requirements, service requirements and specifications for telecom products, services and networks.

Quality of service - In the fields of packet-switched networks and computer networking, the traffic engineering term Quality of Service (QoS) refers to the probability of the telecommunication network meeting a given traffic contract, or in many cases is used informally to refer to the probability of a packet succeeding in passing between two points in the network.

Texas Engineering Extension Service - The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) is a part of the Texas A&M University System. The service offers training programs for employed workers and those entering the labor force.

Engineering Projects In Community Service - Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) was founded in 1995 at Purdue University by Professors Edward Coyle and Leah Jameson as a solution to two problems. First, many engineering graduates lacked real world skills need for project management, such as budgeting and scheduling.
